Atlanta Flooding Rebuild

Location: Atlanta (Dallas), GA

Length of Project: February - April 2010

Length of Stay: Minimum stay of one week, arrive Monday, depart Sunday; Maximum stay of two week.  Local volunteers, who would like to come for the day, are also welcome.

Maximum Team Size: 15 people

Skills Needed: Construction experience, specifically with dry wall and various flooring is helpful, but not required.  Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome.

Minimum Age: Volunteers must be at least 14 years or older.  Youth ages 14-15 must be accompanied by their parent/legal guardian and youth ages 16-17 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone unless the team is registered as a Youth Group.  Youth Groups may serve with Samaritan's Purse and are required to complete a Youth Leader Covenant.

Project Description:  Volunteers will rebuild homes destroyed by flooding this past year.  Tasks include, but are not limited to, hanging dry wall, installing flooring, cabinets and counter tops, painting, and finishing work. 

Background Information: In September 2009 devastating floods hit the western side of the Atlanta area causing massive flooding.  Samaritan's Purse set up sites in Woodstock, GA and Dallas, GA to assist with the clean-up efforts and get houses to the stage where they were ready for reconstruction.  By the time both sites closed down in mid November, 1,170 volunteers had worked 23,084 hours to assist 310 families.  Samaritan's Purse is returning the area to help rebuild these homes to allow families to get back into their houses.  

Additional Information: This site is open to individuals and teams.  Meals and sleeping quarters will be provided.  Volunteers from the local area area also welcome, but must register in advance.  Volunteer Registration

• Volunteers need to bring an air mattress or cot, sleeping bag or sheets, towels, and personal hygiene items.

• Volunteers may bring their own tool belt with hand tools, but it is not required. 

• Volunteers will need to provide their own transportation as well as haul their own tools.
